Hilma Laurena Whitaker was the youngest daughter of Lars and Betsy Spuit and was born at Genoa, Neb., on November 15 1876 and had reached the age of 78 years, 11 months and 16 days.
She grew to womanhood in the Genoa community and was a member of the Methodist Church for many years.
On August 19, 1896 she was married to Alexander Nelson Whitaker in Columbus, Nebraska. In 1907 they moved to Lyman County taking a homestead eight miles
southwest of Vivian where they lived until 1942 at which time they moved to Draper, SD, later, in 1946 they located in Murdo, where she resided until her death.
Mr. Whitaker had preceded her in death on November 30, 1950. She was also preceded in death by two children who reached adulthood, Kenneth and Ruth Holmstedt, six infant children, one infant sister and her parents.
