Doc was one of the nation's longest-active truckers, and the longest active in South Dakota at the time of his retirement in 1994. He owned and operated Blare Truck Line out of Martin beginning in 1928. Do saw many changes in the trucking business from buckboards to diesels, from dirt roads to interstate highways, and he was responsible for initiating many innovations in the designs of trucks and trailers. He hauled livestock, including elk and buffalo, coal, freight, cement, grain and hitchhikers.
