John died unexpectedly in Oct of 1930. Marie raised the children and never remarried. She went to live with a daughter, who married a military man. With them she moved to several Air Force bases including England. She spent her time caring for other military families children.
She was a small, soft spoken woman which made her easy to love. She was devoted to her family, especially her youngest sister, Geraldine Griser Kanapaux. Marie was there when Gerry's three children were born and two of her grandchildren.
"Hush, Little baby, don't you cry, momma's gonna buy you a mocking bird....."
she sang this to every child she cared for.
