JULY 19, 1906: Aunt Polly Ramsour Legrand of Newtonia, an old citizen of this county, died Sunday morning, July 15, 1906. She had been as well and strong as usual on Saturday doing some sewing that day, and seemed quite well on retiring at night. She took sick about 2 o'clock in the night with colic, but soon became better by the prompt attention of her niece, Mrs. J.E. Whaples with whom she was staying. Mrs. Whaples passed through her room several times, and found her resting easy, but when she went to take her breakfast to her she found her aunt had passed away. She was born near Knoxville, Tenn., Dec. 22, 1822, and was therefore 88 years, 6 months and 22 days old. She professed religion when young and lived a consistent Christian life. She was a sister to Mrs. Nimmo of near Ritchey, A. B. Ramour of Berwick and Mrs. Samuel Reynolds of Neosho. Funeral services were held Monday conducted by Rev. L.L. Pinnell, and the remains were taken to the family burying ground east of Ritchey for interment. *Source: The Newton County News published in Newtonia by the Mize sisters
