JAN 2, 1902: Died, of pneumonia at her home in Newtonia, on New Year's morning, January 1, 1902, Mrs. Rebecca (Ramsour) Clark, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed citizens of Newtonia. She died on her birthday anniversary, and was 72 years of age. She came with her husband, Frederick O. Clark, to Newtonia in the year 1865, and has resided here ever since; her husband died in 1881, and she has continued to live in her old home near the school building. She leaves two sons, John O., druggist, and James Al, blacksmith, and two daughters, Lavinia, wife of J.E. Whaples, and Mary E. wife of George Hewlett, and eighteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, all living in Newtonia precinct. Deceased was a member of the Newtonia Missionary Baptist church, and died in the hope of a blessed hereafter. Interment today at the Ramsour burying grounds near Mrs. Nimmo's, three miles east of Ritchey, Eld. T.L. Largen conducting the services. One by one the old people are dropping off, and soon a new generation will succeed them. It is with great sadness they are given up, but their works are finished, and they go to eternal rest. * Source: The Newton County News published in Newtonia by the Mize sisters
