A. T. Coffey, Jr.,age 83, of Forest City, NC passed away Thursday,October 2, 2008, at the White Oak Manor in Shelby, NC.

He was born February 15, 1925 in Marshall, NC to the late Rev. Albert Tendall Coffey, Sr. and Geneva Sawyer Coffey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Martha Sue Crowe Coffey; three brothers, Raymond Coffey, Rev. James Coffey, and Edward Coffey; and six sisters, Zenobia Allen, Leila McFalls, Edna Whitaker, Guynelle Bright, Mary Sue Coffey, and Flora Mae Coffey. Mr. Coffey served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a retired employee of Burlington Industries having worked there for over 30 years. He was a former member of and Pitcher for the Rutherford County Owls Baseball Team and played in the Textile Baseball Leagues. He loved to read his Bible every day and was a member of the Chase Baptist Church.

Mr. Coffey is survived by two sons, Tendall Coffey and wife Debbie of Sandy Mush, NC and Kenny Coffey and wife Rhonda of Danieltown, NC; four grandchildren, Julie Peck and husband Chris of Clemmons, NC, Brian Coffey and wife Bridget of Chesnee, SC, Jennifer Houser and husband Josh of Fort Benning, GA, and Todd Coffey and wife Nikki of Rutherfordton, NC; two sisters, Lucille Waters and Martha Humphries both of Sandy Mush, NC; four great grandchildren, Gracie Houser, Zeke Houser, Hannah Coffey, and Haley Coffey; and several nieces and nephews.
