Forest Bedford Chambers, Sr., of 307 West Duncan, Comanche, Comanche County, Texas, passed away at 11 a.m. on Monday, 17 February 1964, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, of pneumonia, the result of heart disease. He was 85.


Mr. Chambers was born on Tuesday, 21 January 1879, to William Mark Chambers and Clara B. Anderson Chambers, in Bremond, Robertson County, Texas. He was the fifth of seven children born to this union, and the last Chambers child to pass.


He was united in marriage to Dora Izella "Della" Johnson on Sunday, 14 August 1904, in Comanche, Comanche County, Texas, by Reverend John Swofford. They were married 59 years. To their union were born twelve children: son William Perry Chambers; son Jesse Brinson Chambers; daughter Rubie May Chambers; daughter Pearl Leona Chambers; daughter Jewel Francis Chambers; daughter Clara Opal Chambers; daughter Anna Bell Chambers; son Forrest Bedford Chambers, Jr.; daughter Maggie Lucille Chambers; daughter Mattie Lorene Chambers; and daughter Bessie Louise Chambers.


He was converted in 1926 and was a member of the Willow Springs Primitive Baptist Church. He was ordained a deacon in that church on Tuesday, 15 September 1936.


Mr. Chambers had lived in Comanche County for 70 years and was engaged in farming, until he retired about 23 years ago and moved to the city of Comanche.


Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by his parents; son William Perry Chambers; daughters Rubie May Chambers and Clara Opal Chambers; son Forrest Bedford Chambers, Jr; sister Elizabeth Sarah Chambers; brother William Joshua Chambers; sister Lillie Lula Chambers; brother John Perry Chambers; brother Martin Lee Chambers; and sister Marge Magdelen Chambers.


He is survived by his wife, son Henry Frederick Chambers of Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas; son Jesse Brinson Chambers of San Diego, San Diego County, California; daughter Pearl Leona Chambers Claborn of Kilgore, Gregg County, Texas; daughter Jewel Francis Chambers Cagle of Comanche, Comanche County, Texas; daughter Anna Bell Chambers Ward; daughter Maggie Lucille Chambers Solomon of Monahans, Monahans County, Texas; daughter Mattie Lorene Chambers Lemons; and daughter Bessie Louise Chambers Ward of Fort Worth; 34 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.


Funeral services for Mr. Chambers were conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, 18 February 1964, at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Elder C. L. Casey of Cisco, officiating.


Pallbearers were Dale Cagle, Billy Claborn, James Ward, Richard Wood, Elvin Smith and Harlan Solomon.


Interment occurred at Stag Creek Cemetery.


Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Comanche Funeral Homes of Comanche, Comanche County, Texas.
