The body of Mr. Church S. Lanier, who died at Hotchkiss, Col., last Saturday, reached here this morning, and the funeral took place at 3 o’clock this afternoon from the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr. George Stratton, three miles out on the Gallatin turnpike. The services were conducted by Revs. H.B. Blue and W.L. Jackson, and the burial took place at Spring Hill cemetery. The Madison Lodge of Masons conducted the funeral and burial with Masonic honors, members of the lodge acting as pallbearers. The funeral was attended by a large number of sorrowing friends.

Mr. Lanier moved to Colorado a few years prior to his death due to declining health. His health was improved enough that he returned to Nashville and engaged in business. After suffering another relapse, he returned to Colorado with the intention of making it his permanent residence.

He was a well-known business man in Nashville and considered to be noble, upright, and a Christian gentleman. He was the son of the late Church Lanier, one of Davidson County’s most prominent citizens, and for years a county officer.

He was survived by his sister, Mrs. George Stratton.
