Brinkley's obituary appeared in the Weekly Times Enterprise on 2 Sept. 1899, and reads as follows:
An Old Citizen Dead. News has been received in town of the death of Mr. Brinkley Gandy, at his home three miles from Pavo, on Tuesday morning. Mr. Gandy was born in Montgomery County, in this state, and moved to Thomas County with his parents at the age of eighteen. He married Miss L.J. Johnson, and they tread life's pathway together for fifty-eight years. The deceased would have been ninety-one years old had he lived until the 10th of October.
For forty years Mr. Gandy was a consistent member of the Methodist Church, and died in the full triumph of faith. He was the father of fifteen children, twelve of whom grew to manhood and womanhood. Seven, five sons and two daughters, are still living. In addition to these he had thirty-one grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.
He died on the place which he settled more than half a century ago.
The old patriarch was buried in the family burying ground on Wednesday.
"Verily, a father in Israel has fallen."
