Obituary from Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) - December 31, 2008:
LOGANDALE, Nev. -- James Hyrum Steel, 76, died Sunday, December 28, 2008, at his home in Logandale, Nevada.
He was born March 12, 1932, in Plano, Idaho, to James Hamilton and Myrtle Pearl Oakey Steel. On August 13, 1958, he married Lorraine Gloria Krausz in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Jim grew up in Plano, Idaho, served an LDS mission to Canada, served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, then raised his family in Parker, Idaho.
He worked as a farmer and also as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He served faithfully in the LDS church as a bishop, ward clerk for 14 years and in various other callings. He served a mission with his wife in California. Jim was a hardworking man, a modest and unpretentious man who lived a life of integrity. He was respected by those who knew him, and he quietly and humbly provided many acts of kindness and generosity to others and for his many Swedish Weave handiwork gifts. He and Lorraine lived the past 11 winters in Logandale, Nevada.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lorraine; children, Chesley (Kris) of Albuquerque, N.M., Bret (Hollie) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Kami (Gordon) Smith of Rexburg, Idaho, Cozette (Tyler) Freckleton of Kaysville, Utah; 14 grandchildren; and one brother, Louis (Thelma) Steel of St. George, Utah. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Parker LDS Chapel, with Bishop Jed Stoddard officiating. Friends may call at Bidwell Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday evening and for one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in Parker Cemetery with military rites.
