Osmundo Lucero was born in Cerrillos, New Mexico in 1913 to Cipriano Lucero, Sr., who served in the New Mexico State House of Representatives, and Maria "Pita" Gonzalez. After graduation from Cerrillos High School in 1932, he married Frances Delgado Lacassagne of Santa Fe, NM. They had two daughters: Rozella Lopez (Eddie) and Alicia Pino (Gilbert), a special niece, Gloria Wells (Brian), and twelve grandchildren: Melinda Lopez-Robbins, Edward J. Lopez, Jr. (Tara), Elizabeth Anne Lopez, Karen Lopez Walker (Corey), Kenneth J. Pino (Rizard), Thomas J. Pino (Valerie), Regina Pino Ligon (Dave), Ronald Pino (Linda), Elaine Pino, Melissa Sanchez-Rutland (Erik), Jennifer Sanchez-Stagen (Neil), and Matthew Wells (Kylee), and 27 great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Mr. Lucero retired from a long career in civil service of the federal government. During World War II, he helped supply the secret city of Los Alamos, NM during the Manhattan Project and went on to hold various positions at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, including extensive work implementing the "Braceros" program for the United States government in Mexico. He kept detailed typewritten diaries of his life, which were used by scholars researching the Braceros Program.

During retirement Osmundo remained active in the Knights of Columbus, as a lector at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Fe, NM, AARP, NARFE, Spanish Toastmasters and he professionally narrated documentaries in Spanish for the federal government and other organizations.

He died of a sudden heart attack on the morning of March 7, 1981 at his home on 151 Sombrio Drive in Santa Fe, NM.

He is buried next to his wife, Frances Delgado Lacassagne, in the Lucero family plot at Rosario Cemetary in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
