Arnold Maximilano Lucero, a longtime resident of Velarde, New Mexico passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2015. Arnold was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Lucero; granddaughter, Isabela Lucero; parents, Cipriano and Guadalupe "Pita" (Gonzales) Lucero; brothers, Cipriano, Joe (Dora), Abad (Emma)and Osmundo (Frances); sisters, Flora (Enrique) Barreras, Lucy Lucero, and Aurora Griego. Arnold was Cipriano and Pita's youngest child. He was employed with the Española School district for over 30 years as an Art and Music teacher after becoming the first in his large family to earn a college degree. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and was a member of the American Legion. Arnold is survived by his son, Juan and Alicia Lucero of Las Cruces, daughter, Valerie and Manuel Trujillo of Velarde; grandson, Juanito Lucero of Albuquerque, Aaron, Zion and Isaiah Serrano of Las Vegas Nevada and Peter Serrano of Albuquerque, granddaughters, Isabell Lucero of Los Angeles CA, Amber Serrano of Albuquerque, 8 great-grandchildren; nephew, Verne Lucero of Albuquerque. He was buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetary on June 10, 2015.
