Justice of the Peace, Cohoctah Town Supervisor, First Officer Livingston County Agricultural Society, Republican Representative in the State Legislature, Special Commissioner, and Probate Judge, Enumerator of the 1890 Veterans Schedual in Cohoctah, Livingston County Michigan. Jacob was bornto Peter and Sarah (Cook) Kanouse of Rockaway, New Jersey . 1834 Jacob had moved to New York City to be a blacksmith for one year then removed to Michigan with his father continuing his trade and farming interests. By 1851 he had been elected as Supervisor of the township of Cohoctah and then to Justice of the Peace, where he served 12 years.In 1860 he was elected to the State Legislature. He was elected Probate Judge in the fall of 1872. Hon. Jacob Kanouse took Miss Mabel Drake, daughter of Gideon and Maria (Pope) Drake, as his wife December 17, 1840. Jacob and Mabel Kanouse had four children; Luther C., Mary A., Emma J. and Nettie J.
