Ms. Lucy Ann Bass, widow of the late A.W. Bass, who would have reached her 85th birthday had she lived until next Wednesday, passed away at her home on the old Palestine highway just South of the city at 8:00 o'clock Wednesday night. Mrs. Bass suffered a light stroke during the Christmas holidays, but had recovered somewhat and as late as Wednesday was able to walk to the table. She was in good spirits all of Wednesday and her death came suddenly Wednesday night.
Funeral services were held from the Christian Church at 2:30 Friday afternoon with Rev. Reaves, pastor, conducting the services. Burial was at the city cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr.
Mrs. Bass, the former Miss Lucy Ann Morrison, was born at old Porter's Bluff in this county on March 27, 1855. Following her marriage she moved to the section where she died and had lived in the same house for the past 60 years. Making her home with her was her daughter, Mrs. Ada Cranford and a son, Bob Bass.
She united with the Christian Church early in life and had been a devout member of that denomination for many years.
Her husband preceded her in death some 35 years ago. Six children also preceded her in death.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ben Dave Dickerson, Mrs. Ada Cranford and Mrs. H.T. Gilliam and one son, Bob Bass. Nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren also survive.
Deceased was among the oldest native residents of the county.
