Vera Tjaden, 96, a former resident of 1211 Rampart Avenue, Floyd, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Vera Tjaden will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. The Rev. Dennis Niezwaag, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the church an hour prior to the service.

Vera Caroline Hobert Tjaden was born July 23, 1906, at Charles City, the daughter of Edward and Ida (Krumrey) Hobert. She graduated from the Charles City High School in 1925. On December 29, 1926, she was united in marriage to Louis Tjaden at Charles City. They farmed in the Colwell and Floyd areas all of their lives. Louis died on August 12, 1991. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Flower and vegetable gardening were very important to Vera. She also spent many hours visiting with friends on the front porch of their home.

Living family members include three sons, Jerald Tjaden of Wendell, ID, Norman Tjaden of Seattle, WA, and Dale Tjaden of Floyd; two grandsons, Per and Sten Tjaden; a great granddaughter, and a sister, Marion Hilborn of Menomonie, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Raymond Hobert, and two sisters, Lucille Stock, and Irene Nehls.
