Daniel Keller was a Revolutionary War veteran and a holder of two patents for paddle wheel boats. It is said one of his boats was the first paddle wheel boat to go down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. The family moved to Jefferson County, Kentucky, in about 1805 and to Clark (now Floyd) County, Indiana Territory in about 1809. Daniel married Margaret Weller in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in 1783, and married Margaret Eckstein Stipp Shipman in about 1800.
