Pleasanton---Funeral services for Pfc. Clinton Krotz were held Wednesday, Dec. 1 at the U.B. church. The Pleasanton American Legion was in charge of the grave ceremony.
Pfc. Krotz was killed in action in Italy on May 8, 1944 while serving with the motor squad in the 85th Division of the 5th Army. He went overseas in December, 1943.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Krotz of Pleasanton, his wife, now Mrs. Frank Oliveria of Sausilita, California, two brothers, Bernard and Willard of Pleasanton; one sister, Mrs. Louise Kisling of Litchfield, and grandfather Henry Munster, Sr. of Pleasanton.
He was born March 24, 1917, and was 27 years of age at his death. He was born near Pleasanton and that was his home until 1937 when he and his brother Leo went to Willows, California. There he was employed by the California Land and Irrigation Co. until his induction in the army January 27, 1941.
He was married to Dorothy Berkheimer on January 15, 1941. Stationed first with an infantry division he was trained at Fort Ord, Eureka, and San Luis Obispo, all in California, Camp Van Dorn in Mississippi, then to maneuvers in Louisiana and finally to Camp Dix, New Jersey, from where he was sent overseas.
Traveling first to Africa, he was sent into action with the 5th Army in Italy where he saw action until his death near Cassino, Italy. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Markmanship Medal, the Bronze Star for gallantry in action, and the Purple Heart.
He was buried in the U.S. military cemetery near Carono, Italy and there remained until brought home to rest near his relatives and friends. He was a kind and loving husband, son and brother and is greatly missed by his family and friends.
