Melfred Bertel Bergerson was born on May 3, 1932 in Johnson Township, Polk County, MN the son of Bennie and Mabel (Sweno) Bergerson. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Gully and attended the Strande School, rural Gully.

Melfred served in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955 and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal.

On August 9, 1956, Melfred was united in marriage to Audrey Gunderson and to this union three children were born, Bonita, Laureen, and Timothy.

Mel lived and worked for his uncle, Henry Sweno before going into the service. After the service, he worked a variety of jobs, the main ones being Hanna Mining Co., and later moved to Minneapolis and worked for Olson & Bacon Painting Contractors. In the early 1970's he moved to Rochester and worked in several aspects of the building trades. In later years he was self employed as a handyman, retiring and moving to Oklee in the early 1990's.

Mel was an avid hunter and fisherman and always carried a fishing pole wherever he went. He enjoyed playing cards and dancing. He was always very fastidious about his housekeeping and his appearance.
