The family came to Massachusetts Settlements from England in 1635, when Daniel was five years old.

In 1646, he received a free grant of 25 acres from Providence. On June 24, 1648, he and several other young men were arrested for "giving a false indian alarm" (Providence).

In 1653, he married Paltiah Elderkin. On December 19, 1658 he was given 100 acres in New London, CT.

In 1676, Daniel served as a volunteer in the Narragansett War, also known as King Phillip's War.
