Obituary.
Richard Rivers was born Feb 27, 1823, in the State of Kentucky, and came to Indiana with his parents when but two years old. He had therefore been a resident of the county 71 years, a period of time scarcely equaled by any other person now living in the county.
He was married to Elizabeth Harris, July 1, 1847. To this union were born eight children – six boys and two girls. One son and one daughter are dead.
Deceased made a profession of religion and joined the old regular Predestinarian Baptist church the first Saturday in June, 1880, and lived a faithful member until his death, which occurred June 10, 1896.
He was sick five weeks, and bore his affliction with Christian fortitude until death relieved him. He fought a good fight, he kept the faith and finished his course and is now wearing the crown that was prepared for him. J. M. D.
