OBITUARY TAKEN FROM FAMILY BIBLE:
John Newton Corbin was born at LeRoy, New York, February 14, 1847, and died September 22, 1929, aged 82 years and 7 months. He came to Lawrence in the early days, and July 12, 1876 was united in marriage to Miss Adelaide Prentice, a sister of the late C.T.K. Prentice. Mr. Corbin was in business with Crew and Hadley and later was employed in the baggage and express service on the Santa Fe. The family lived here until 1892 when they moved to Denver, and after that lived for a while at Newton, Kansas. For some years he had been unable to take an active part in life but had kept up his interest in public and government affairs and was well read on many subjects. He is survived by four children: Mrs. P.R. Beeman of Temple, California; Mrs. P. Williamson of Long Beach, California; H.H. Corbin of Newton, Kansas; and, Mrs. M.A. Rothenberger, San Marino, Cal., thirteen grandchildren. Funeral Services were held September 24, at 4 pm at the Ramsey Funeral Home. Rev. H.A. Gordon of Methodist Church conducted the service. Mr. Corbin was laid to rest at family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery.

John Newton Corbin was the son of Henry Howard Corbin and his second wife Harriet E. (Ellis) Corbin. All children of John Newton and Adelaide Prentice Corbin have find a grave sites and all children grew to adulthood.
