James A. White, 92, Pleasant Manor Care Center, formerly of Rome, died Friday, March 22, 1985, at the Henry County Health Center.

He was born Jan. 31, 1893, at Rome, the son of Pleasant G. and Henrietta B. Russell White. On Aug. 26, 1914, at Rome, he married Minnie E. Messer. She died Dec. 28, 1978.

Mr. White had farmed in Henry County and had worked for the C.B.&Q Railroad. He had also had worked for the Mt. Pleasant Street Department for 15 years and attended the Rome Baptist Church. He was a past member of the War Dads.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Gladys) Sammons, Rome; Mrs. Gertrude Schmidt, San Marie, Calif.; Mrs. Van (Roma) Crew, rural Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Donald (Betty) Grimm, Cheyenne, Wyo.; and Mrs. Jeane Woodside, Wapello; 28 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren.

His parents, one son, Keith E., one daughter, Marie, two brothers, Walter and Hugh, and three sisters, Gertrude, Myrtle and Mae, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 25, at the Weir Funeral Home. The Rev. David Van Gorkom of the Rome Baptist Church will officiate with interment in the Grant Cemetery, Rome.

Friends may call as they desire beginning at noon Sunday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

A memorial has been established for the Pleasant Manor Care Center.
