Gladys O. Sammons
Gladys O. Sammons, 82, of Rome, died at 8:41 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Henry County Health Center.
Born Dec. 24, 1916, southeast of Rome, she was the daughter of James A. and Minnie E. Messer White. On May 1, 1934, she married Floyd Sammons near Rome. He died June 13, 1984.
Mrs. Sammons was a homemaker. She also worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Metromail, Iris bowling Lanes and retired after seven years in housekeeping at Henry County Health Center.
She was a member of the Rome Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons; Herry Sammons and Terry Sammons, both of Mount Pleasant, and Gary Sammons of Burlington; four daughters, Ramona Colvin of Ottumwa, Sandy Paul of rural Mount Pleasant, Donna Baxter of Lithonia, Ga., and Debra J. Sammons of Lockridge; 14 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, a great-grandson, a brother and five sisters.
Visitation will begin at noon Monday in Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. There will be no family visitation.
The funeral for Mrs. Sammons will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rome Baptist Church in Rome. Burial will be in Grant Cemetery west of Rome.
A memorial has been established to Rome Baptist Church.
