There is no record of where James Franklin Hill was buried. We know he died in the early part of 1863. There are three possibilties of where he may have been buried. First - on the family farm which is not likely, by 1863 no member of the family own the old farm -- second - The Sandy Hill Family Cemetery. Sandy was James's uncle and there are several unmarked graves there and he could be buried in one of them -- third - Sappington Community Chapel Cemetery. James's brother, Calvin is buried in this cemetery and Calvin was the administator of James's inventory in March of 1863. Calvin could have made the decision to have him buried there.

In order to help reserarchers in learning about the Hills in Moniteau County, I have decided to place his burial in The Sandy Hill Cemetery for easy excess for researchers.

James Franklin Hill was the son of John and Susan (Evans) Hill, John's second wife. Following in the foot steps of his older brother Chrismon and sister, Amanda, he married into the same Johnston family He married Sarah Ann Johnston, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Shirley) Johnston sometimes in 1859. Along with his brother, sister and in-laws, he moved to Montrose, Henry County, Missouri. Shortly afteward, his wife, Sarah, died in childbirth in July 1863. Sarah and infant daughter were buried in the 1852 Snodgrass/Union Cemetery in Bates County, Missouri.

Grief sticken at his lost, he moved back to Moniteau County and never recovered from the tragedy. He took to drinking and became a drunk. In the winter of 1863, he lived on a housboat and sometime during the night in January or February, while in a drunken state, he went outside during a storm, fell down and died of exposure. (This was given to me by William Vogel in 1982, whose wife was a decendant of the Hills).

The following document is very imporant for it's the only legal document I'm aware of that lists all the children of John Hill.
