Mrs. Amanda C. Johnson (Johnston), quite well known in the eastern portion of the county, died Sunday afternoon at 12:30 at her home 12 miles east of Butler. Her death was caused by a hemorrhage of the brain. Mrs. Johnson was born in Moniteau County. and was 79 years of age at the time of her death. The funeral services, conducted by Lewis Wix, were at the family home Tuesday afternoon and burial was made in the Snodgrass Cemetrery'

Amanda was born in 1825 in Cooper County, Missouri. Moniteau County didn't exist until 1845. Amanda's brother, Chrismon Hill and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Elizabeth Johnston, are also buried in Snodgrass Cemetery.

Amanda married George Shirley Johnston March 28, 1850 Moniteau County, Missouri. They had 11 children, 7 daughters and 4 sons. Her husband died: April 3, 1893 and is buried in Snodgrass Cemetery. For some reason Amanda has two tombstones and only her name appears on the second stone.
