Artist. His early life was spent working at Shell-Mex house and County Hall, London, where decorated his office with prints by the artist Paul Nash. He started painting around 1950 while working at the Geological Museum, London. At this time he began to visit West-end galleries and met the sculptor Jacob Epstein. By 1959 he was able to resign his job and become a full time painter. His work consisted of townscapes and abstracts and he listed Nash, Giacommetti and Ben Nicholson among his influences. The writer and critic George Melly said of his work "his pictures whisper, they are worth listening to". He had a number of solo exhibitions from 1961 until his death, when a memorial show was organised in his honor. His letters and scrapbooks are now held in the Tate Gallery archive, London.
