PIONEER REGISTER AND INDEX, 1542-1848, "Franklin Bedwell came to California in 1840. He was a Tennessean who went to Missouri with his parents in 1819. Was a trapper in the Rockies and the Great Basin for years. About 1840, he came to California and continued as a trapper, but about 1843 settled on the Russian River. He joined the Army of the Bear Flag Republic in 1846, went with Colonel Fremont, and was with Gillespie's Garrison in Los Angeles and later was in Stockton's Army. He went to the gold mines in 1848-49, and finally settled down in his Russian River home afterwards. In 1848 or 1849 he seems to have met in California his mother and brother after many years separation. In 1858 he married Selina McMinn of Tennessee, but had no children." Franklin is listed with a sketch of him in the SONOMA COUNTY HISTORY.
