Mrs. Lizzie A. Gates, 85, of Joyce, died Monday morning, June 28, 1971 at the Winnfield General Hospital here following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Yocum officiating. Burial was in Sikes Cemetery.

A native of Sikes, Mrs. Gates was a member of the East Winnfield Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Gates of Joyce; two sons, Edward Gates of Monroe and Hershel Gates of Las Vegas, Nev.; five daughters, Mrs. Essie Boles, Mrs. Vada Spangler, Mrs. Alma Sandifer, and Mrs. Gladys Lowery, all of Winnfield, and Mrs. Zella Hancock of Monroe; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Gates of Shreveport, Mrs. Ella Gates of Dodson, and Mrs. Emma Lee Jordan of Sikes; 30 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
