Born William Nanny son of George Nanny and Sarah, he, his father, his brothers, and a few cousins changed their name to Anway early in the 19th century, shortly before moving to Ohio. My father (Percy Anway Edwards) was told they grew tired of allusions to goats. Married Hannah Hall ca 1896. They had ten children; John W, Susan, William, George B, Fanny, David Austin, Henry Erastus, Harvey, Harrison, and Phebe Jane. They were the first European settlers in Scipio, Seneca, Ohio, and named the township and county for their previous location in New York. He, his father, and his brothers were early settlers in the finger lakes, and early settlers in Ohio.
