OBIT:

Alice Lawrence Pickerell was born in Mahaska County November 10th, 1862, one of the four children of Andrew and Delilah Lawrence. She grew to young womanhood in this county and was married to John W. Pickerell November 16th, 1884. To them were born three children, who were all by her bedside during her last illness.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Clarence Pickerell of Holyoke, Colorado, and Harry Pickerell; one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Enoch of this community, five grandchildren, and one brother, Jasper Lawrence of Long Beach, California.

At the age of sixteen she united with the Christian church at Bethel and has been a constant follower of the faith to the last. For a number of years her health had been failing but she struggled along and always made the most of the situation. Her thoughts were of others, and the loving way in which she cared for her family and all those with whom she came in contact will never be forgotten.

Two weeks ago she was taken ill with influenza which developed into pneumonia and with a weak heart finally overcame her. Three days before her death she had wished her dear Lord to call her home but by the wish of her children clung to life as long as she could. All that loving hands and medical aid could do was of no avail and she passed out peacefully at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, April 28th, at the age of 62 years, 5 months and 18 days.

Funeral services were held at Bethel Friday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C.E. Mickle of Carlisle, assisted by Rev. J.M. Elam and Rev. George Purdy of Oskaloosa. Interment was made in Bethel Cemetery.
