Capt. Abraham Hackleman was born September 25, 1775, at the foot of King's Mountain, Lincoln County, N.C., near the place where the battle was fought toward the close of the Revolutionary War. In the War of 1812, he was a member of Capt. Bryson's company, and held a subordinate position under that officer. Much of the military service performed by him was guard duty in the State of Kentucky, having moved into that jurisdiction in 1802. From Kentucky he came to Franklin County in this state, in the spring of 1816, whence he moved to Wabash County in 1849, and spent the remainder of his days here. He died at Wabash on the 16th day of October 1858, aged a little more than eighty-three years.
