The Gastonia Daily Gazette, August 26, 1922. John L. AbernethyMr. John L. Abernethy, a well known resident of River Bend township, died at his home at 9 o'clock thursday evening. Deceased was born March 28, 1852, and was married to Miss Susan Abernethy September 10, 1874. To this union there were born ten children, seven of whom are living. They are Mrs. A.D. Lee, Mrs. Floyd Hope, Mrs. Irene Loftin, Mrs. Robert Smith, Labe Abernethy, Frank Abernethy and Hester Abernethy.Mr. Abernethy joined the Hickory Grove Baptist church about 48 years ago and continued a faithful and loyal member until his death. He will be greatly missed in the Hickory Grove community.Funeral services were conducted at the Hickory Grove church Friday by Rev. H.E. Waldrop, pastor of the McAdenville Baptist church, and interment was in the Hickory Grove cemetery.
