~ JAMES ESCAPED THE LAST INDIAN MASSACRE OF GEORGIA ALONG WITH HIS BROTHERS REUBEN, JESSE, JOHN AND A COUSIN, ALICE WILKERSON. ~

But his parents and six of his brothers and sisters along with a cousin, the Wilkerson boy weren't as lucky. They were all killed in THE LAST INDIAN MASSACRE IN GEORGIA on July 22, 1838, by of band of Seminole Indians led by Billy Bowlegs.

James enlisted in the Confederate Army on Nov. 20, 1862, in Sanvannah, Georgia by Captain Jippins for three years, or the duration of the war. Private, Company G., 47th Georgia Infantry.
