At the time of her passing, Edith had been a 23 year resident of the Abilene State School in Abilene, Texas. Her death certificate states she was "mentally retarded due to Tuberous Sclerosis." At the age of 41, Edith died of a spontaneous pneumothorax resulting from cystic disease of the lungs. She was buried at the Abilene State School Cemetery on July 21, 1967.
