Hanna emigrated from Snöfleboda, Kyrkhult Parish, Blekinge, Sweden August 04, 1881 by way of Malmö, Sweden to Kearny Junction, Nebraska with her father, mother, and three siblings. Her father, Måns, began farming in the York, Nebraska area.

Her mother, Kjersti, died January 1882, just five months after the family arrived in York. Hanna, age 14, was the eldest, and had to take on the job to keep house and raise her siblings her father worked the farm. Her father remarried in 1886 to a widow, Johanna Olson, who had a fourteen year old daughter from her previous marriage. Hanna was now 18 years old, still keeping house, helping to raise her three siblings and now a step-sister.

Hanna met Salomon in Ballard, King County Washington where they were married in 1898. Hanna was ordained as a missionary by the Scandinavian Mission Society of the United States, October 28, 1899, in Ballard, Washington. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Denver, Colorado. Both were active in the Swedish community and the Swedish Evangelical Church. They were involved in the development of Swedish Sanatorium for TB - later renamed Swedish Hospital.
