Hilmer was born October 29, 1894 to Nels and Ella Anderson in Cherry Valley Township, Winnebago, IL. He had two brothers; Clarence (1 Elva) and (2 Katherine) Anderson & Glenn (Dorothy) Anderson; and five sisters; Helen (Charles) Ring, Selma (Grant) Gustafson, Agnes (Ashley) Hagaman, Blanche (Einar) Fredrickson and Ruby (Paul) Lundberg.
He was married to the former Edna Linnea Beckstrom, October 21, 1922 in Winnebago County, Rockford, IL.
Hilmer was gassed as a soldier in World War l and suffered the effects for the rest of his life.
He was owner and operator of Anderson Excavating, Sand & Gravel for many years.
One daughter was born to this couple, Dixie Lou (William) O'Donnell and two grandchildren, Craig and Ginger O'Donell.
Hilmer was interred March 20, 1981.
