GORDONVILLE - Funeral services for Richard "Dick" Clark Acox, 66, will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at Faith Baptist Church in Gordonville with Rev. Jim Harwick officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Ringling Cemetery in Ringling, Okla. Visitation will be held from 6 -8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home in Whitesboro.
Richard left his earthly home Nov. 28, 2008 following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on July 9, 1942 in Cornish, Okla. to Clark and Helen (Cryer) Acox. Richard married Marilyn Harvey on Oct. 15, 1961 in Lamonte, Mo. A former police chief, Richard was a member of the Police Chief's Association, the American Legion, the 13 Area Metro Squad, and the Texas State Police Association.
Richard lived for his family, though he never passed up an opportunity to help anyone in need. He was known for mixing compassion and heart with the authority he commanded in his police work.
His family, though, was at the heart of his very existence. Papa will be loved and missed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren for the rest of their days. Part of him will live on through the hearts and minds of each member of his family.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Acox of Gordonville; daughters, Tammie Houston of Raymore, Mo., and Teri Ramirez and husband Al of Gordonville; brother, Jerry Acox of Yukon, Okla.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Larue and husband Clark Higgins of Sweet Springs, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clary and Helen Acox and one great-grandchild.
