"Funeral services for Mrs. Albert Newsom, 84, will be held from the Methodist Church of Meadville Thursday afternoon at two o'clock. The pastor, the Rev. William A. Pollock, will conduct the memorial rites. Burial will be in the family plot in the Meadville Cemetery.

Emma Kate Shore, a daughter of the late Isaac and Lavina (Hartman) Shore, was born near Meadville in Linn County on October 11, 1869. She attended rural schools in Linn County, and was married to John Albert Newsom near Meadville on March 25, 1891. He died in 1942. Mrs. Newsom was a member of the Methodist Church at Meadville." The Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune, October 6, 1954

"She departed this life at her home in Meadville at 1:30 a.m. October 5, 1954, one week before her 85th birthday. She was united in marriage to John Albert Newsom, March 25, 1891 in Linn County, Mo. To this union were born six daughters and three sons. Six children survive, namely, Mrs. Olive Staats of East St Louis, Ill., Mrs. Florence Glenn of Amarillo, Tex., Guy Newsom in Texas, Mrs. Mary Stelplugh of Meadville and Lee Newsom of Kansas City, Mo.

Also surving are a sister, Mrs. Lizzier Rosier of Los Animas, Colo; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and her husband's only living sister, Mrs. Eva Strickler, who is 92 years of age.

Her husband preceded her in death August 18, 1942. Also three children, Blanche in 1952, and Ethel and Howard in infancy.

Mrs. Newsom joined the Trinity Methodist church near her home when she was just a child and transferred her membership to the Meadville Methodist Church nearly 30 years ago. She was active in her church and attended as long as her health permitted. She was a loving and devoted mother to her family, and lived her quiet life with her home as the center of interest. She always bore her suffering patiently, and looked to find the bright side of life. She was thoughtful of others and numbered her friends by her acquaintances.

She was a friend whose heart was good.
Who walked with folks and understood.
Hers was a smile folks loved to see
Hers was a hand that asked no fee
For friendliness or kindness done
And now that she has journeyed on,
Hers is a fame that never ends- She leaves behind uncounted friends"
