Edward Elam "EE" or "Ed" Taylor was the son of Benjamin Branch Taylor and Minerva Ann [Elam] Taylor. He married Mary Susanna "Sue" Hendricks on October 15, 1865 in Rutherford Co., TN. EE Taylor was laid back, onery and often teased his wife and children. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church in Rockvale, TN located 2-3 miles from the historic home his grandfather, Robert Taylor built. He was well repected in his community and by his extended family. Ed was a teacher and farmer. He was also a confederate soldier during the Civil War in the 24th Tennessee Infantry Company D, Capt. Jno. A. Wilson's Company. When he enlisted he was 17 years old and 5' 5" tall. He took part in the conflicts in Shiloh and Perryville before being assigned to General Stewart's, Strahl's and Palmer's Brigade, Army of Tennessee. This unit was active on many battlefields from Murfreesboro to Atlanta, returned to Tennessee with Hood, saw action in North Carolina.
Ed Taylor was a very loving man and wrote letters home to his parents while on the battlfield. Edward wrote home from Knoxville Big Creek, Tennessee 12 Nov 1863,
"I am glad to inform you that my health is good; ...Ma, I guess you've had a minute description of the fighting..."
After their marriage, Ed and Sue moved to Knox County, Texas and settled in Vera. They were the parents of nine children, Blanch Eudora, Harry A., Fannie Edna Elam, Benjamin Eugene, Albert Sidney, Hester Ada, S. Jennie, Thomas Edward,and Mary Etha.
