Benjamin Lang Riggs, 75 died Friday in Chandler Community Hospital.
Mr. Riggs was born in Pinetop and moved to Mesa in 1899 where he attended school. In 1916 he moved to Chandler and has lived there since.
Mr. Riggs was a prominent cotton farmer and cattleman, having worked as a Zanjero for the Roosevelt Water Conservation District from 1927 to 1945, when he retired.
He was a member of the LDS Church and at his death held the office of High Priest. He and his wife were known for their duet singing at funerals, weddings, and social functions. In June 1964 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chandler LDS Ward Chapel, Bishop Lyle Riggs officiating. Friends may call at Meldrum Mortuary, 55 No. MacDonald, between 4 and 9 p.m. today and on Tuesday at the Ward Relief Society Room in Chandler from noon until services. Interment will be in the Mesa Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; two sons, Bishop Lyle Riggs and Reid Edwin; three daughters, Mrs. Elaine Green, Mrs. Melba Lamoreaux, all of Chandler and Mrs. Colleen Harris of Phoenix; a sister, Mrs. Elsie Plumb of Casa Grande; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
