Thomas Jackson Anderson died at his residence in Upshur County, Texas on January 31, 1879, after a protracted illness of dropsy of the chest. Mr. Anderson was born October 14, 1810 near Milledgeville, GA, and moved to Texas in 1840. He was a citizen of the Federal Union as a state and was, therfore, known as an "old Texan", having resided in the state for about 38 years. He was a farmer and a trader, who by economy, industry and attention to his business had accumulated considerable property. He leaves a wife and large family of children to mourn his death.
He had never been impressed with the truth and importance of religion and was, therefore, irreligious in his habits and professions up to the time of the commencement of his fatal illness, but his sickness and confinement caused him to reflect and meditate upon a future state and to review his past life in reference thereto, which resulted in a profession of religion several days before his death.
