Funeral services are Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel with visitation from 1 p.m. until service time. Interment is at Mizpah in Durant.
Mr. Durham was born at the home of his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jenkins, in the country outside of Sallis. He lived his entire life in Durant, moving to his Castalian Springs Blvd. home in 1932. He graduated from French Camp Academy. He served in U.S. Army in WWII, landing on day two of the D-Day landing at Omaha Beach. When the family store closed, Mr. Durham spent several years enjoying the Mississippi outdoors - hunting and fishing. He raised hunting dogs and judged field trials. He then began a 17 year career with the Mississippi State Hwy. Patrol. He was known as an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing the bounty of his garden with neighbors. Mr Durham was a life-long member of Durant First Baptist Church.
Survivors include cousins; nieces; nephews; and their children.
Mr Durham was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche McMorrough Durham; his parents, George Walter Durham, Sr. and Floyd Durham; and his brother, Clyde Durham.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 132 West Mulberry, Durant, MS 39063 or French Camp Academy, One Fine Place, French Camp, MS 39745.
