Elvira Salaiz Armendariz, 72 of Las Cruces died Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born September 2, 1933 in San Lorenzo, New Mexico to Bernabel and Belen Salaiz. An area resident for all her life she was a member of and was very active with L.U.L.A.C. Elvira loved to travel and camping. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was a loving friend to all. Elvira was also a member of the Catholic Church.
Elvira was survived by one son, Joe Henry Armendariz and his wife Larissa of Las Cruces, NM; one daughter, Cynthia Ann S. Armendariz of Las Cruces, NM; three brothers, Fernando "Nano" Salaiz, Eduardo "Lalo" Salaiz and Alberto "Beto" Salaiz all of Las Cruces, NM. Also surviving Elvira are her five grandchildren, Ryan James Armendariz, Justin Roman Armendariz, Carolyn Carina Armendariz, Maria Elena Hernandez, and Gilbert Hernandez, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Armendariz in 2000.
Funeral servoces were held at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church, with Fr. Ricardo Hinojal, officiating. Burial followed at the Masonic Cemetery.
Serving, as pallbearers were Carlo Molina, Albert Salaiz Jr., Gilbert Hernandez, Reymundo Molina, Michael Armendariz, and Mark Armendariz. Honorary pallbearers were Eduardo "Lalito' Salaiz, Jr., Roberto Molina, Michael Molina, Ricardo Molina and Andy Armendariz.
