George was the son of Nimrod and Susan Shaner Bennett.

George P. Bennett, widely known Minford area resident and former Madison Township clerk, died at 4 a.m. today in Mercy Hospital after a four month illness. He was 84.

Mr. Bennett lived in the Poole's Corner community on Minford Rt. 1.

A retired farmer, Mr. Bennett once served 22 years as Madison Township clerk and was treasurer of Minford Knights of Pythias Lodge 52 years.

He was born in Madison Township January 30, 1871, a son of Nimrod and Susan Shaner Bennett. He was married to the former Malissa Lawton, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Susie Colegrove of Lucasville Rt. 4; three sons, W.T., Marion and Charles Bennett, all of Minford Rt. 1; a sister, Mrs. Susie Crull, also of Minford Rt. 1; 24 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

The parents, a son, one brother, three sisters and three half-brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. Bennett was a member of Fairview Baptist Church on Piketon road where Rev. Clarence Caulley and Rev. Alva Hall are to conduct funeral services Monday at 2 p.m. Interment is to be in Bennett Cemetery under direction of Erwin-Dodson Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 tonight.
