THE PARIS NEWS, Nov. 02, 2004

Leslie Dale Carroll Sr., 79, of the Hopewell community passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 2004, after a long battle with numerous illnesses.

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Burial follows in Hopewell Cemetery. The family receives friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He and his twin brother were born May 17, 1925, to Elvie Dee and Laura Mae Gibson Carroll, in Paris.

He worked in Temco Aircraft and lived in Irving for several years before returning home to Paris. He retired from Campbell Soup Co. in 1988, after 18 years working in maintenance.

He married Laura Mae Tingle on April 8, 1950, in Paris.

He had many hobbies. He loved making a garden, especially raising tomatoes, fishing and hunting, but most of all seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were his pride and joy. He watched lots of news and thought that everyone should vote. He also liked to write books and sing. He was a former member of the Western Writer's of America Club.

He was preceded in death by his father, Elvie Dee Carroll.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, Laura Mae Crawley; a son, Leslie Carroll Jr. and wife, Carol, of Paris; a daughter, Susan Layton and husband, Robert 'Bobby' of Sumner; grandsons, Robert P. Layton and wife, Shannon, of Amarillo, Clint Layton of Paris, Bryan Carroll and wife, Krystal, of Okla.; five granddaughters, Melissa Layton of Paris, Danielle Manning and husband, Jason, of Paris, Cassi Rodriguez of Hopewell Community and Wendy Cox and husband, Mike, of Paris; 15 great-grandchildren, Chylsea and Dylan Dunn, Joseph Christen, Victoria and Alex Rodriguez, Emily, Samantha and Coy Cox, Hayley and Devin Manning, Trevor Carroll, Jacob, Jessica and Riley Layton; his twin brother Weslie Dee Carroll of Fort Worth; sisters, Dorothy Jones of Dallas, Doris Kaski of Waukegan, Ill., and Billye Fay Bridges of Lake Dallas along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers are Bryan Carroll, Robert P. Layton, Clint Layton, Michael Cox, Jason Manning and Andy Rodriguez.
