Daughter of Richard Harvey, Sr. and Elizabeth (Long) Harvey. 1st wife of James Combs.
Mrs. Martha Combs, wife of James Combs, one of the most prosperous farmers in this vicinity, died on Monday last, at 11:30 AM. Mrs. Combs has been a constant sufferer for the past twelve years, not seeing may well days during that period, and her life has been despaired of several times. At every change of the weather, she would take a new cold until last Tuesday night, when was taken with a chill, which developed into fever on the next day. She continued in the same condition until Sunday morning, when she began to gradually grow worse until Monday at 11:00 AM, when she expired. Mrs. Combs was 49 years old, and left besides her husband, ten children, eight girls and two boys, six of the children being married. Mrs. Combs had twenty-two grandchildren. She will be much missed by friends and relatives far and near, for she was in their sympathy on account of her long continued sickness. Dr. J.W. Taylor of Macclenny was in attendance, but was too late to be of any aid. Mrs. Combs was buried at the Cedar Creek Baptist Church on Tuesday, where the balance of the family connections are buried.
