Arlene Howland Salyers, 93, of Wurtland, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, in Wurtland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Aug. 28, 1915, at Beechy Creek in Letitia, a daughter of the late Robert and Pearl Nunley Howland. Her husband, Dennis Salyers, preceded her in death. They were married Feb. 28, 1943.
She was a homemaker and founding member of Flatwoods Freewill Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for children for many years, was an avid gardener and had deep Christian faith.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Denver and Cletus Howland; and three sisters, Julia Howland Rogers, Eleanore Howland Winters and Mildred Howland.
Survivors include a brother, Herbert Howland of South Portsmouth; a sister, Thelma Howland of Springfield, Ohio; a nephew raised as a brother, Edward Howland of Hamson, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Carman Funeral Home in Russell by Larry Garvin. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Flatwoods.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home
