He was born May 1, 1912 in Alta, Illinois to Daniel & Lillian (Pierce) Carr. He married Gladys Thompson on September 16, 1939 in Peoria. She died March 27, 1966. He then married Katie Thompson. She died August 11, 2004.
He is survived by three sons, Dan (Arlene) Carr of Columbiana, OH, Dave (Marcia) Carr of St. Louis, MO. and Richard (Teresa) Carr of Danvers; a daughter, Elizabeth (Dave) McKay of Durham, NC; a stepson, Robert (Mary) Kirby of Florida; and a stepdaughter, Judith Kirby of Santa Fe, NM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives; 2 brothers, Howard & Walter Carr and a sister Mavis Theobald.
He was raised in Princeville and moved to Peoria prior to World War II. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He worked as the Postal Supervisor and Director of Mails at the Peoria Postal Service prior to retirement.
He was a member of Forrest Hill United Methodist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years. He was a member of the American Legion, the V.F.W., N.A.R.F.E., the Masonic Lodge and the Mohammad Shrine Temple. He was very active with Boy Scouts of America for many years and he loved dancing, camping and traveling.
Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria with full military honors.
