OBITUARY

VARDAMAN- Mattie Clytee Blissard Ashby, 99, died Fri., Oct. 21, 2005, at the Floy Dyer Manor in Houston, MS. She was born Jan. 3, 1906, in Chickasaw County to George Wesley Blissard and Cannie Rebecca Thorn. She was a homemaker and a member of Vardaman United Methodist Church. She worked as a home visitor for the Chickasaw County Welfare Dept. She was preceded in death by her husband, Baylous Priest Ashby, in 1977.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Vardaman United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy McCord, Dr. Bryan Scarbrough and the Rev. John Foster officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Vardaman. Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Vardaman is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Rebeca Hardin and husband, Bud, Linda Taylor and husband, Henry Lee, and Carolyn Davis and husband, Bill, all of Vardaman; a sister, Madge Fleming of Houston; two brothers, Kimble Blissard and Grady Blissard, both of Houston; five grandchildren, Cindy Hamilton, Lisa Blue, Sandra Jones, Charley Davis and Derrick Taylor; an adopted grandchild, Denise Marrow Faulkner; seven great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Billy Thorn Lovelace of Greenville.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hamilton, Mike Jones, James Blue, Charley Davis, Derrick Taylor, Phil Faulkner and Josh Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers will be James E. Blissard, Dwight Fleming, Charles Fleming, Roger Carpenter, Franklin Lowe, Keith Nabors, Jed Douglas, Charlie Shoaf III and Wayne Byars.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral Home.
