Cora A. Bray
Mrs. Stephen Bray, 77, long-time resident of the Lewellen community, passed away Tuesday [July 22, 1952] at the Lewellen hospital. She had been in ill health for the past two years and was hospitalized the last few weeks of her life.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the Grace Lutheran church at Lewellen. Wright Funeral, home will be in charge and Rev. W. C. Heidenreich will officiate.
The deceased was born Cora Ann Van Winkle on December 3, 1874 at Mt. Pleasant, Illinois. In 1895 she was united in marriage to Stephen Bray at Angus, Nebraska.
In 1906 the couple came to Garden county from Edgar where they had been making their home. They homesteaded on a place 25 miles northeast of Lewellen.
They moved into Lewellen in 1919 and have since made their home in that town. For many years he operated a barber shop in Lewellen but retired due to ill health two years ago.
Seven children were born to the couple, one son passing away in infancy. Another son was killed in World War I. Surviving are three sons and two daughters. A sister, Mrs. C. M. Kailey of Henry also survives.
Mrs. Bray was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Lewellen and a loving mother. As long as she was able she was active in homemaking and being a good neighbor.
